Measure the width of the interior shutters from the right jamb to the left. Subtract 1/4 inch. Share this measurement by four. Each window requires four panels: two connected panels for the right side and two for the left. Measure the height of the window and subtract 1/4 inch. The frame on each panel should be about half an inch in width. Subtract 3 inches from individual measurement panel width to find the width required for the grid / slats.
Cut 16 frame pieces, four per panel. Most wood will work, but it must be 1 1/2 inches wide. Use a straight cut to create angled edges so the pieces fit well together. Cut 100 slats, 25 per panel, using a square cut. The wood of interior shutters must be 1 3/4 inches wide. Cut 4 center spikes to the height of the panels, minus 3 inches.
