Rustic shutters – You can make a rustic folding screen from recycled shutters. Recovered shutters, worn from years of weather exposure, are ideal for creating rustic projects for the home. Look for shutters with detailed woodwork and worn surfaces. A rustic folding screen made of recycled shutters will be a perfect addition to a country cottage, oak lodge or a beach cottage. Even a modern apartment in town will be accentuated nicely with a rustic shutter.

Brush the surfaces of the recycled rustic shutters with a steel brush to remove any loose paint and other debris. Spray two even layers of spray paint. Leave at least four hours between rocks. Allow the final layer to dry for 24 hours. Lay the doors flat on a work surface so that they are side by side. Align the bottom edges so that they are even. Place a hinge 6 inches in from the upper and lower edges at the joints between the doors. Mark the mounting holes in the hinges on the doors using a pen.
Drill a 1/4 inch deep pilot hole in the center of each selected hole in the holes with a drill and 1/16 inch test whole piece. Align the hinges over the holes, and drive the screws that were included with the hinges through the mounting holes in the hinges of the hinges using a screwdriver. Press a bottom-corner furniture pad on each rustic shutter using a hammer. The furniture bags protect the floor surface from scratches.
